Course description

The route, the asphalt or the climatology are three of the many factors which have a great influence when predicting the possible result in a timetrial stage. This time 15 kilometres are going to be covered in Salamanca. 13,300 was the number of kilometres covered in Malaga in the past edition of Vuelta a España, being Zuelle the best rider going at an average speed of 46,576 kilometres and investing 17:08 minutes. Differencies were really short. Olano arrived 2 seconds later and Hruska just 4. Santos González 40 seconds later, Angel Casero 33 and climbers such as Heras 47, Sevilla and Botero 1:10 and Jose María Jimanez 1:44. Il Giro and LeTour started this year with even shorter distances. Being the route 7,600 kilometres long in Italy, Rik Verbrugghe used 7:44 to cover it. Isidro Nozal was the best Spanish rider using 8:02, followed by Olano and Jon Odriozola with 8:03. As regards Le Tour, there were 8,200 kilometres to ride, which were covered by Moreau in 9:20 minutes and by Igor González de Galdeano in 9:23.
