Stage 9 - November 9: Fada-N'Gourma - Tenkodogo, 126.5 km

Burkina Faso celebrates with Ouedraogo's stage win

Jérémie Ouedraogo became the first Burkina rider to win a stage in this year's Tour du Faso, outsprinting his compatriot Mahamadi Sawadogo and Frenchman Sylvain Despres (Pays d'Allier). The three were part of a successful six man breakaway that finished 4 minutes clear of the peloton, containing yellow jersey Joost Legtenberg. The Dutchman's lead was not threatened though.

Today's stage between Fada N'Gourma and Tenkodogo was 126.5 kilometres in length. After only 15 kilometres, the deciding break of the day escaped. Ouedraogo, Lucien Zongo, Mahamadi Sawadogo (all Burkina Faso), Sylvain Desprès, Arnaud Vettier (Seine Maritime) and Martinien Tega (Cameroon). None of the six were really dangerous for Legtenberg's Marco Polo squad, with Tega the best placed at 14th overall, 14'46 down on GC.

The gap hovered between two and three minutes for a while, but the peloton was content to let the escapees stay out there. At the end they eased up on the throttle, allowing the break to get four minutes. Ouedraogo took a very popular stage win in front of Sawadogo, finally winning a stage for the host nation. There will be dancing in the streets of Tenkodogo tonight.
