17th Tour de l'Aude Cycliste Féminin - 2.9.1France, May 18-27, 2001Main page Results Previous stage Stage 3 - May 21: Lézignan-Corbières - Lézignan-Corbières, 128 kmDouble RussianRussian Olga Slioussareva (Carpe Diem-Itera) has won the third stage of the Tour de l'Aude in an impressive breakaway with her teammate and compatriot Svetlana Samokhvalova. The pair finished 3'17 in front of the peloton, which was led home by Petra Rossner (Germany). However, it did not have a great impact on the general classification, as Edita Pucinskaite (Alfa Lum) still holds sway over Canadian Lyne Bessette. The third stage was a 128 kilometre loop around Lézignan, and the battle was on for the points and mountain sprints on offer. Lyne Bessette won the day's climb, despite dropping her chain at the bottom of the hill - she was helped back on by a teammate and rejoined the leaders with 1 km from the top. She then came round everyone to win the sprint. After the descent, there was an intermediate sprint with approximately 60 kilometres to go. Despite her best intentions, Australian Anna Millward's leadout for her teammate Alison Wright completely backfired as Wright was not able to follow, but the two aforementioned Russians were, along with Debby Mansveld (Vlaanderen). The Russian pair took the sprint and then rode away from Mansveld and the rest of the peloton, establishing a maximum lead of 4 minutes. They easily kept their lead, allowing Slioussareva to finish first in Lézignan with more points for her jersey. Tomorrow is a split day with two short, flat stages.
