Eeckhout wins in Waregem

Belgian Nico Eeckhout (Lotto) has won the 56th edition of the Dwars door Vlaanderen, a 201 kilometre race between Kortijk and Waregem containing several of the hills used in the upcoming Ronde van Vlaanderen.

In windy and rainy conditions, Eeckhout attacked after just 8 kilometres with his teammate Thierry Marichal, eventually leaving Marichal in the final 50 kilometres to win solo. Following Eeckhout there was a group of 12 pursuers with Nico Mattan, Paolo Bettini, Jaan Kirsipuu, Leon van Bon and Tristan Hoffman, but Eeckhout was too strong.

Domo's Wilfried Peeters finished second ahead of Arvis Piziks (CSC-World Online).
