Dwars door Vlaanderen - Cat. 1.2Belgium, March 22, 2000Hoffman wins - Tchmil DQ'dThe 55th edition of the Belgian Cat. 1.2 race, Dwars door Vlaanderen (formerly Dwars door Belgie) was won today by Memorycard Jack & Jones' Tristan Hoffman solo break. He narrowly beat former teammate, Peter van Petegem (Farm Frites) and Lars Michaelsen (FdJ), after a group containing all the favourites made to the final. On the last climb of the Nokereberg, Hendrick Van Dijck tried to attack followed by Tom Steels, however they had no luck. Peter van Petegem attempted as well, but was reeled in and it was down to a bunch sprint. However, Hoffman had other ideas and attacked in the last kilometer, winning the race for the second time. However in the sprint, a 100 meters from the finish line there was first a fight with an elbow from Andrei Tchmil to Jo Planckaert. In the turmoil Tchmil fell taking three other riders, Aerts, Ivanov and Klier, with him. Tchmil had to visit the hospital afterwards, but it was revealed that he was ok. He was later disqualified from the race.
