Przydzial wins men's TT

Reports by Daniel Marszalek

Piotr Przydzial from the CCC-Mat team has won his second time trial title (the first was in 1998), easily beating the younger of the Kohut brothers Slawomir (Amore e Vita), and Przydzial's TT specialist teammate Krzysztof Szafranski. The parcours was a 45 km long loop around Dabrowa Gornicza. The 2000 Tour de Pologne winner is now aiming for the double (like Piotr Wadecki last year), with the 250 km road race scheduled on Sunday on the course around Sosnowiec.

19 year old Bodnar gets U23 title

By Daniel Marszalek

Finally, just 19 years old(!) Lukasz Bodnar has decisively won the ITT title in the Under 23 category. Last year's bronze medalist from the Junior World'ss in Plouay was nearly a minute faster than his nearest and older rivals. He normally rides for Belgian team Kortrijk Groeninge Spurters, but at home was representing the MAT team from Jelcz Laskowice, the "amateur" section of the CCC-Mat professional team.

Although one fact should be noted, last year's top 3 were absent since no. 1 Pawel Zugaj (European U-23 runner-up) is injured and no. 2 & 3 Zbigniew Wyrzykowski & Dawid Krupa turned professional during this winter.

U23 Men ITT - 30 km

1 Lukasz Bodnar (MAT Jelcz Laskowice) 38.39

Day 2 - June 30: U23 Men, Elite Women road races

Zarebski triumphs in Espoirs

By Daniel Marszalek

The 180 km Espoir race ended in a 3 man sprint with (interestingly) no medals for the young riders from 3rd division teams. The MAT Jelcz team gained another gold (after Bodnar's win on Thursday) thanks to Jaroslaw Zarebski sprinting abilities.

U23 Men - 180 km

1 Jaroslaw Zarebski (MAT Jelcz Laskowice) 4.28.15
2 Bartosz Huzarski (Strabag Winuel Sobótka)

Matusiak doubles (again)

By Daniel Marszalek

Bogumila Matusiak once again proved that she certainly deserves the nickname of "Polish Longo" as, just like the famous Frenchwoman, Matusiak took both gold medals at her National Championships. Saturday's win gives her total of 18 already. While last year she won "solo" with a huge 11 minute advantage, this time she did it in somewhat different fashion. Although she is certainly not a sprinter, the Mikomax rider won a sprint from 6 women ahead of the talented and supposed to be quite fast Anna Skawinska.

Elite Women - 120 km

1 Bogumila Matusiak (Mikomax Browar Staropolski) 3.33.43
2 Anna Skawinska (Ziemia Darlowska)
3 Paulina Brzezna (MAT Eden Spolmot Sobotka)
4 Beata Jasinska (Lukk Mazur Barczewo)
5 Malgorzata Wysocka (Bo-Go Szczecin)
6 Anna Szafraniec (Lotto PZU SA)*
7 Emilia Skawinska (Ziemia Darlowska) 0.17
8 Monika Wasiuk (Dystans Elk) 1.32
9 Monika Tyburska (Atlas Lukullus Ambra) 4.39

Day 3 - July 1: Elite Men road race

Radoslaw Romanik out-duels Piatek

By Daniel Marszalek

The Elite Road Race was ridden over a 254 kilometre long course around Lazy near Sosnowiec, and produced a rather expected outcome, but historical results all the same.

For the first time in the "open cycling era", (from 1996 on), a Mroz rider hasn't won a champion's jersey, although they took two places on Sunday's podium. The race belonged to two very experienced riders: 34 year old Radoslaw Romanik from CCC-Mat (3rd this year in Peace Race + KoM jersey winner) and Zbigniew Piatek from Mroz (5th in Peace Race and 3rd in GP Beauce this year) who escaped from an already fragmented bunch on lap 13 of 15.

Piatek (also 2nd last year while riding for Mat-Ceresit!) did most of the work in the break, but paid for this effort on the final straight. Romanik's win means that all four men's gold medals went to the Jelcz Laskowice team either in the CCC-Mat professional group or in the Mat-Jelcz Laskowice espoir team account.

Results - 254 km

1 Radoslaw Romanik (CCC-MAT) 6.33.22 (38.742 km/h)
