Stage 3 - June 20: Buga - Cartago, 120.0 km

Ladino wins fast stage

Gregorio Ladino (Aguardiente NŽctar) won the third stage of the 2001 Vuelta a Colombia, a 120 km flat run between Buga and Cartago. Tri-colored jersey race leader Marlon PŽrez (Orbitel 05 A) was second, followed by V’ctor Herrera (Aguardiente NŽctar).

The flat trajectory was tempting for eager legs, and the race was marked by short, intense attacks and counterattacks. Often the average speed of the peloton was calculated at 60 kph. The 120 km stage was over in 2'23"14.

Tomorrow's stage four between Cartago-Armenia-Pereira will take the riders through 176 kms which will introduce the race to the mountains.
