Stage 3 - January 18: McLaren Vale - Victor Harbor, 165 km
Preview
Starting in the popular McLaren Vale wine district, stage three of the race winds its way south of Adelaide to its eventual destination in Victor Harbor. The stage in 1999 that ended in Victor Harbor saw Stuart O'Grady stamp his authority on the race, going on to win the yellow jersey.
With just one KOM at Sellicks Hill (30 km), this is not expected to be a stage for the climbers. There is always the potential for a medium sized group to escape on days like this. The heat will of course play a strong part, with many of the Europeans unwilling to race flat out on a 40+ degree day.
