Saeco ride into the lead on day 2

Day two of the Jacob's Creek Tour Down Under saw the in-form riders in the peloton rise to the top, as team Saeco collected a stage win and the overall classification. Yesterday's 3rd place getter, Fabio Sacchi, edged out Stuart O'Grady and Kai Hundertmarck as the race sped into the Town of Murray Bridge, and gained the leader's yellow jersey in the process.
After a 10 kilometre neutral section starting from the suburb of Norwood, the riders started climbing immediately. The first mountain prime at Kangaroo Creek (km 11.4) was taken by a pair of Sunsmart riders, Robert Tighello and Ben Day, who attacked quite early in the race. Tighello and Day held on for the second climb, the steep Checker Hill at kilometre 27.8.

At this stage, a group of four riders were in pursuit: Jorg Ludewig (Saeco), Anthony Morin (Credit Agricole), Daniele Nardello (Mapei) and Nic Brown (United Water). They quickly crossed the 2 minute gap to form a good working break. Behind them, the bunch started to slowly splinter, with an eventual group of 22 forming a chase group. Many of the favoured GC riders made this group including Stuart O'Grady, Alexandre Botcharov, Juan Carlos Dominguez Pat Jonker, and Robert Bartko, but Telekom's Steffen Wesemann missed the crucial cut.
The race almost came back together, but Ludewig and Nardello had other ideas.

They attacked the break just near Oakbank with 69 kilometres to go. Behind them, the large chasing bunch split into three, with 13 riders eventually catching Ludewig and Nardello. Credit Agricole and Saeco controlled the pace after this, as the long, flat sprint finish in Murray Bridge was a big chance for O'Grady and Sacchi.
Sacchi was too fast however, and O'Grady was forced into second place once again as they sprinted across the line. Sacchi's teammate, Jorg Ludewig, finished in the leading group and moved to second overall by virtue of a sprint time bonus. O'Grady is third, at two seconds back.
