Saturn does the old one-two

The Timex International Women's Open is a warm up race to the 2001 USCF National Criterium and USPRO Championships. The race was held over 40 minutes, plus two laps of the figure-eight shaped, 1.2 mile course at Downers Grove in the suburbs of Chicago.

The race began in a usual criterium fashion - fast and furious from the gun. The eight-corner Downers Grove course is fast and technical, offering the thousands of spectators ample opportunity to watch the racing.

The Timex race began with early attacks from Intersport’s Catherine Marsal, but after three laps Saturn's Ina Teutenberg attacked and built a 10 second gap. Autotrader’s Katrina Berger was quick to react, and bridged to Teutenberg with Saturn’s Kristy Scrymgeour on her wheel. The three worked together, establishing a winning gap of nearly a minute by the end of the race.

With one lap to go, Scrymgeour attacked, forcing Berger to chase and in doing so, set up Teutenberg for the win. Berger caught Scrymgeour in the last two corners, giving Teutenberg a nice leadout for the win. Berger hung on for second and Scrymgeour came home in third.

Back in the field, Saturn's Petra Rossner attacked the peloton with two laps to go and finished fourth, while Anna Millward (Saturn) won the field sprint for fifth. All in all, Saturn had five in the top ten finishers.
