49th Herald Sun Tour - 2.4Australia, October 5-15, 2000Main page Results Previous stage John Lieswyn's Diary Stage 7 - October 9: Bright Kermesse, 49 kmMcGee finds his legsOlympic bronze medallist in the individual pursuit, Brad McGee scored a win on the road today in the 49 kilometre Bright kermesse that comprised the morning stage day four of the Herald Sun Tour. Despite yesterday's effort up Mt Hotham and the prospect of another tough stage in the afternoon, the peloton blasted around the course at over 45 km/h, in quest of numerous sprints and bonus seconds on offer. There were many attacks but in the finale it was Brad McGee who was the strongest, going solo with 2 km to go to win by 18 seconds over Australian champion, Jamie Drew (Jayco) and Belgian Bart Heirewegh (Foster's), with Ireland's Aidan Duff taking 4th. The main bunch were a few seconds back and Baden Cooke (Jayco) once again won the bunch sprint. McGee admitted that he has struggled through the early stages of the tour, but today his legs came back. The overall classification stayed the same, with Eric Wohlberg (Australia Post) and Steve Williams (Caravello) sharing the lead. This afternoon's stage from Bright to Beechworth (91 km) contains three climbs and should challenge the riders. The weather at least is perfect.
