Today, horrendous conditions failed to crack the leaders on the 188 kilometre leg from Colac to Apollo Bay, although only a select group was left to fight out the finish. Amidst strong winds and stinging rain, an early breakaway containing Rene Haselbacher, Peter Wrolich (City of Melbourne), Bart Heirewegh (Foster's Lightice) and Daniel Aeschlimann (Southern Grampians) stole a lead on the peloton. When they hit Port Campbell on Victoria's rugged Southern coastline, they were greeting with high seas but stuggled on as the main bunch behind them splintered. The four were caught with around 35 kilometres to go by 11 riders, containing all the top riders in the general classification. Josh Collingwood attempted a move with Scott Moninger, but this failed to have an impact on the leading group and they were quickly reeled in. In the finale, a group of three escaped: Bart Heirewegh, Petr Bencik (Active For Life) and Glen Chadwick (Caravello).
