49th Paris-Bourges - 1.3France, October 1, 20001999 Results Coupe de France standings Past Winners Brochard wins 49th Paris-BourgesJean Delatour's Laurent Brochard won the 49th edition of Paris-Bourges, bettering his second place in 1998 and third in 1999. The Frenchman was clearly not suffering from jetlag as he flew back from Sydney after the Olympic road race, and bested Chris Peers (Cofidis) and Bo Hamburger (Memorycard) who finished three seconds behind him. With this win, Brochard moved himself into the favourites list for for the World's in Plouay in two weeks time. After a breakaway containing Philippe Koehler (Mapei) and Daniel Schnider (FdJ) was caught with 50 kilometres to go, there was a counterattack from eight riders. Brochard and his teammate Patrice Halgand, Andrei Tchmil (Lotto), Chris Peers and Peter Farajzin (Cofidis), Hamburger, Jean-Michel Tessier (FdJ) and Rolf Huser (Festina) formed the group which gained over three minutes to the major portion of the bunch by the finish. Laurent Brochard attacked with Peers and Hamburger in the closing stages, before dropping the latter two in the final kilometre. Paris-Bourges was the final race in the Coupe de France series, with the overall win going to Patrice Halgand (Jean Delatour) after he finished sixth today. In second place was today's winner, Laurent Brochard, while Jaan Kirsipuu (Ag2r) claimed third after some good performances early in the series.
