Halgand two in succession
Winner of this race last year, Jean Delatour's Patrice Halgand did
it again in the 1.4 A Travers Morbihan, the 10th of 16 rounds of the
Coupe de France. He also won the Trophee des Grimpeurs earlier in the
month and today beat Kazakh Serguei Iakovlev (Besson Chasseurs) and
Belgian Dave Bruylandts (Palmans).
A tough 181 km, 13 lap course involving 13 ascensions of the Cote
de Cadoual (1.9 km at 7%) saw many attacks. Cyril Dessel (Jean Delatour),
Olivier Asmaker (Festina), and Swede Magnus Backstedt (Credit Agricole)
escaped on the first lap, and had a lead of 4 minutes by the end. Halgand,
Robin (Bonjour), Hinault & Voigt (Credit Agricole), Madouas (Festina),
and the Russian Botcharov (Ag2r) reacted and caught the leaders with
70 kilometres to go.
Halgand then attacked with 2 two go and held the others off to win
by 1:25. With this and the Grimpeurs victory, he and team director Michel
Gros are hoping that J-Delatour will get a Tour Wildcard spot.
