The race begins at 9:00 and will finish at approximately 11.45. The riders have to negotiate 20 laps of a 5.1 kilometre parcours for a total distance of 102 kilometres. The circuit is on the south side of Lake Burley Griffin, which separates the main business sector of Canberra from the Parliamentary area. The undulating circuit passes within 1 kilometre of the National Parliament and winds through the Embassy district of Canberra. There is a steady climb of 1 kilometre, but this is not steep.
