Stage 19 - July 21: Fribourg-En-Brisgau - Mulhouse, 58.5 km

Flat and fast are the words to describe the long 58.5km on today's menu. After leaving city center Fribourg, the time trial heads southwest along the Rhein River, and after 37km, jogs due west, crosses the Rhein and enters France. Then it's a fast tack to Mulhouse, with the final 10km through the wind sheltered Forest of Harthnord before entering Mulhouse city.
The big battle is obviously between Lance and Jan; Armstrong and Ullrich that is. Maillot Jaune Armstrong wants to win a stage this year and as he's generally dominated the Tour time trials, he wants to keep his win streak intact. Armstrong has the advantage of racing last and wearing the Maillot Jaune. He will race behind Ullrich and hear his time splits, enabling the American to gauge his effort and focus to win.
But Jan The Man is no slouch against the watch; in fact, he is current World Elite TT champ and many experienced observers in the press room say that Ullrich's form is improving every day. Yesterday's welcome back to Germany should help, and as Jan lives near Fribourg, he'll have the home field advantage. So it's too close to call and in any case, will set the stage for a return match between the two great riders in the Sydney Olympics in 2 months.
As for the best of the rest, Joseba Beloki (Festina) will likely keep his third place slot as well; although he's just ahead of tiny climber Heras, there is no danger for the Kelme man, nor from Virenque, who is currently in 5th. However, both Heras and Virenque ARE in much danger of moving back at least one GC spot, as Beloki's teammate Moreau (Festina), from nearby Belfort is less than 2' out of third. With a massive ride today, Moreau can even knock Beloki off the podium for 3rd. Don't be suprised! Otherwise, Daniele Nardello (Mapei) will likely power past Herve, Beltran and Mancebo into the top 10, unless he crashes in the final TT like at last year's Tour.
In what may be the most exciting time trial in years, just like the OK Corrall at High Noon, everyone is waiting for the shootout between Jan The Man and Big Tex! Draw, pardner...
