1999 results Preview Course profile Results Start List Past Winners ReportThe Estonian sprinter Jaan Kirsipuu won Classic Haribo and took the lead in the Coupe de France. At 50 kms last year's winner Stuart O'Grady (Crédite Agricole) launched an attack with Italian Marco Serpellini (Lampre Daikin). The duo got almost six minutes before the chase started and they were caught by a group with 20 kms to go. At this stage the main field was spilt due to a crash started by La Francaise des Jeux's Italian Fabrizio Guidi who ran into a traffic island. With the tailwind, the speed rose but Gianluca Bortolami (winner of the World Cup 1994) attacked and managed to get an eight seconds gap to a group of six: Jaan Kirsipuu, Laurent Brochard, Romans Vainsteins, Oscar Cavagnis, Paul Van Hyfte and Michael Blaudzun. The gap widened to 15 seconds at 183 kms and it was still eight seconds at three kilometers to go when six other riders bridged. The group split in the final kilometers and finally only Krisipuu, Laurent Brochard, Romans Vainsteins and Gianluca Bortolami were left to fight it out in the sprint. The other three came in at ten seconds, managing to hold a diminishing peloton of 40 some riders off by ten seconds. It holds special value for Australian Stuart O'Grady who won last year, and finished 2nd the year before.
