Stage 6 - August 31: Benidorm-Valencia, 155.5 km

The next few stages follow the Spanish coastline with the first being a 155.5 kilometre flattish run from Benidorm to Valencia. There is only one category three climb (Alto de les Planes at kilometre 47) so the sprinters should have it their own way again.

Both Benidorm and Valencia are famous for their beaches and variety of foods and restaurants. Benidorm derives a good deal of its cuisine from Arabic influences, with rice cooked with pumpkin, salmon, and spinach being an example. Valencia was founded in Roman times and had influences of Muslim, Visigoth, and Aragonese culture. During the 15th and 16th centuries, Valencia became one of the great economic powers of the Mediterranean, and is presently one of the most important Spanish cities in that respect. Its climate is typically cool to mild (average 17 celsius, 70% humidity) and enjoys a good deal of sun throughout the year.
