Stage 5 - August 30: Albacete-Xorret del Catí (Alicante), 152.3 km

Stage 5 is the first that features a serious climb near the end (Alto de Cati, a category one climb situated at 3 kilometres to go). The stage heads again in an eastward direction towards the Spanish coast as it travels from Albacete to Xorret del Catí. The only other difficulty is the category 3 Puerto de Biar at kilometre 129.

The finish in Alicante may please the riders as the region is well known for its excellent food. The style is Mediterranean, with an emphasis on fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as fish and other seafood, with rice the main accompaniment.
