Stage 20 - September 16: Ávila-Alto de Abantos, 128.2 km
The sting in the tail is in this, the penultimate stage from Avila to Alto de Abantos on the outskirts of Madrid. With just one time trial to follow, the riders have to endure yet another mountain finish, the fifth of this year's Vuelta. It could be an important stage, but by this time the race should have been decided.
The climb to Abantos is fairly steady, averaging 5.6% for just over 13 kilometres. There is a flat spot in the middle of the climb, but the steepest parts are near the top at 8%.
