Tour de Toona - NEAltoona, USA, August 1-6, 2000Main Page Results Previous stage Stage 4 - August 4: Martinsburg Circuit Road Race, 80.3 mi/128 kmFraser: 4 from 4, Ulmer 3 from 4Stage 4 of the Tour de 'Toona saw Canadian Gord Fraser build on his perfect palmares in this race as he took another win in the 80 mile Martinsburg road race. After some early attacks by the 7 UP/Colorado Cyclist team's Clark Sheehan and Anton Villatoro, the day's decisive move was triggered by the trio of Derek Bouchard-Hall (Mercury), John Lieswyn (Shaklee), and Mark Walters (Navigators) during the third of four 20-mile laps. Their escape led to a countermove from the pack that brought ten more riders- including Fraser and Scott Moninger- up to join them; by the finish, where Fraser took his fourth straight win from Vassili Davidenko (Navigators) and Lieswyn, the group had gained 2:31 on the field. By contrast, things were fairly quiet during the women's stage: Elita brought back the day's only significant break on the final lap, and, with Bessette and Gaudry content to let things sort themselves out during Saturday's 95-mile road stage, it came down to a field sprint, won by Ulmer from Alison Sydor (Timex) and Tina Mayolo (AutoTrader.com). Tomorrow is the hardest stage of the Tour de 'Toona, the 95 mile Bell Atlantic Jaffa Mosque Road Race. While Fraser and Ulmer's winning ways could finally come to a halt, it will require a concerted effort by the other teams to shake the pair on the hillier circuit.
