PreviewStarting in Ferrol with a 97 kilometre circuit race, this five stage, 735 kilometre Tour of Galicia (Volta a Comunidade Galega) is in its 14th year this year. Many riders will be using it as their final preparation for La Vuelta a España, which starts August 26, including Festina's Joseba Beloki, Roberto Heras and Fernando Escartin (Kelme) and Alex Zülle (Banesto). Also Santi Botero (Kelme), Leonardo Piepoli (Banesto), Pavel Tonkov (Mapei) may use it to turn the legs over before the final Grand Tour of the year. Teams include: ONCE, Banesto, Festina, Kelme, Mapei, Lampre, Euskaltel-Euskadi, Cantina Tollo, Vitalicio, Saeco, Liquigas, Fuenlabrada, Alessio and Jazztel. The main difficulty of the race is the finish of the last stage, at the top of the Col de Seixo in Forcarei, a first category climb 970 m high.
