Preview

The first day of this year's race will be spent in Austria with a split first stage. All 16 Italian teams will start as well as six teams from abroad. Garzelli seems to be Mercatone Uno's man for the Giri in the absence of Pantani, and here he is the official captain of the team. He has to deal with Gotti, Tonkov, Savoldelli and Axelsson to name a few other Giro candidates.
