French rider Alexandre Chouffe (Big Mat-Auber 93) won Tuesday's stage 6 between Montron in the Charente region of France to Castelsarrasin over 258 kms. He was part of a 4-rider breakaway which finished 35 seconds in front of the peloton. French team rider Yoann Le Boulanger retained the leader's yellow jersey

Conforming to pattern, this stage saw a long breakaway from 4 riders - 3 French Chouffe, Sylvain Anquetil and Sylvain Chavanel and Austrian Martin Fischerlehner. Their intent was clear and they quickly established a huge lead reaching a maximum of 16 minutes. But the peloton reacted in the last 70 kms stirred by the French team who were seeking to protect the GC lead of Boulanger. The lead came down quickly once the chase was one and with 40 kms to go it was 5.40, and by the 0.35 at the finish. A case of leaving it too late.

The end-game was clearly to be played by the leading 4 and Chouffe was the first to go clear. With 3 kms to go he tentatively tested his companions but the move didn't last. In the final sprint, Sylvain Anquetil led them out but Alexandre Chouffe, seemingly in great form, was just too fast for the others.

The race now goes to Bagnères-de-Bigorre in the region of the Hautes-Pyrénées and it will be a preview to the 2 stages in the Pyrenees with the two Hors Category climbs of the Tourmalet and the Aubisque.
