Brief Preview
The Vlaamse Wielerweek begins with the E3 Harelbeke and
continues with the Brabantse Pijl. The races mark the lead up
to the Ronde van van Vlaanderen which is staged the following
Sunday.
The 38th edition of the Brabantse Pijl (Brabant Arrow) on Sunday
is without doubt defined by the seven climbs of the Cote
d'Alsemberg (12% in parts). The peloton initially heads for
the Pajottenland (Sint-Pieters Leeuw, Halle, Pepingen, Gooik,
Herne, Galmaarden, Geraardsbergen (Kapellestraat), Bosberg,
Ninove.
The race starts at midday and the first climb of the Alsemberg
will be around 14.30 and then 6 laps each 16.3 kms long are
raced until the finish which is scheduled to be around 16.50.
The race distance is 193 kms.

Brief
Johan Museeuw took both Belgian races at the weekend by
winning the E3 Harelbeke and the Brabantse Pijl.
During the last climb of the Alsemberg, Museeuw
rode his last opponents off his wheel -
Germano Pierdomenico (Ita, Cantina) and Michael
Boogerd (Ned, Rabobank). The three had worked well
together in a break and had a good gap on the peloton.
Coming in a minute late was Wilfried Peeters making
the fourth place safe for the Mapei-Bricobi team.
At the presentation, Museeuw said that he was the top
man for the Ronde van Vlaanderen next Sunday.
