the women's race...
- On the
first of seven laps, the front group of women racers descends toward Argenteuil
from the Côte de l'Ermitage.
- It was
not a day to get caught in the back as a group of riders that included
all 3 podium spots got away early and stayed away.
- Look
at the road, not the camera!
- Magali
Le Floch, Marcuz-Mreau,and Vandekerckhove got away early and grabbed all
3 podium spots.
- The

wins the race, behind him Erik Zabel fights to become 2nd.
- Levi
Leipheimer was in front for many kilometres. In the Taunus hills he collected
enough points to win the Mountain trophy of the day.
- Young
Belgian Jan Kuyckx (Team Flaanderen) was the first escapist of the day
until Leipheimer joined and later dropped him.

- Neutral
Support is awake and working several hours before the race starts, to
ensure that wheels are pumped up and in working order.
- Gord
Fraser (HealthNet) gets ready to defend the Leader's Jersey.
- Estape
(Tepos) waits for the start of the race.
- The
race began with a several mile neutral start through the town of Silver
City, NM.
- After
6 miles, 10 racers managed to break away, causing the Trek All Stars to
chase.
- The field
rides through a rolling portion of the course, about halfway through the race.
- The
break sprints for the 2nd Sprint of the day.
- Jeffrey
Hartmann (Trek All Stars) takes his turn pulling. The Trek All Stars did
an amazing job of single-handedly chasing down the break, allowing Drew Miller
to take the win.

- The
women's field rides through town with about 8 laps to go.
- Off
the front, we have four leaders: Sue Haywood (T-Mobile), Melissa Holt
(Rona), Genevieve Jeanson (Rona), and Ina Tuttenberg (Saturn).
- Genevieve
Jeanson still has a 9 minute lead in the general classification, though
today's stage win went to Tuttenberg (Saturn).
- Ina
Teutenberg (Saturn) and Sue Haywood (T-Mobile) broke away from Holt and Jeansen,
taking 1st and 2nd, respectively.
- Jeff
Hartmann and the rest of the Trek All Stars team get ready to defend Drew
Miller and the leader's jersey.
- The
team discusses its strategy for today's race.
- Meanwhile,
Jared Clark ensures that everything is in perfect working order.
- The
Pro Race was lead out by unique bikes. Here, one of the riders tries to
"pop a wheelie"
- The
racers head up the climb on Cooper Street.
- Healthnet
was very active in the race today.
- For
several laps, Mike Sayers (Healthnet), 2nd in the general classification,
was in a break.
- Once
again, the field climbs up Cooper Street. This time the Trek All Stars
are at the front of the field, trying to catch the break.

All Stars Director, Jim "JimmyD' Dunlap communicates with his team via

field descends Cooper Street.
- Drew
Miller (Trek All Stars) remains comfortably within the peloton for most
of the race.
- Many
local residents gathered at the top of the hill to cheer for the racers.

Stage 5 - May 4: Gila Monster Road Race, 100 miles

- The
racers line up for the final stage of the Tour of the Gila: the 100 mile
Gila Monster Road Race.
- The
race caravan rolls out in a neutral start.
- The
Trek All Star team does an excellent job protecting race leader, Drew
Miller, from the strong winds that prevail this morning.
- Ron
Hudson (Sportsbook.com) took off before the first climb. He managed to
stay away for 30 minutes, before being caught by the field.
- Gord
Fraser (Healthnet) then jumped at about 55 miles into the 105-mile course,
and stayed away all the way into the Gila Cliff Dwellings turnaround.
- An
elite lead pack of about sixteen riders, with Drew Miller (Trek All Stars)
stationed at the front, caught Fraser (Healthnet).
- Miller
(Trek All Stars) & Estapa (Tecos) opened up a gap shortly before the feed
zone.
- Though
briefly caught by the chase group, it wasn't long before Estapa (Tecos)
and Miller (Trek All Stars) had taken the lead again.
- Miller
(Trek All Stars) found that, for the third time in 13 years, he was the
champion of the Tour of the Gila.
- Miller
and Estepa had found their rhythm on the category 2, 1,400 foot ascent
leaving the Gila Cliff Dwellings.
- The
names of the second group read like the roster of a mountain bike race.
Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski (RLX Polo-Sport), Andreas Hestler (Canadian Cycling
Association), Todd Wells (Hyundai Mongoose), and Carl Swenson (RLX Polo-Sport)
kept the company of roadies Jon Stierwalt (Team Rio Grand) and Blake Caldwell
(5280/Subaru).
- Estapa
(Tecos) grins shortly after winning the stage.
- The

the sprint final, but Lindenmuth pipped her later, at the line
- Men's 1000 Meter

- Gideon Massie
clocked the fastest time in the Men's 200 Meter Time Trial - 10.738
- Erin Mirabella's
3:54.276 put her at top seed in the Women's 3km Pursuit Qualifying
- Paralympian Brad
Cobb's pursuit start is a wonder to behold
- Only one team entered,
so the Men's Team Pursuit was won with a 5:06.170 by Brad Cobb, Joey D'Antoni,

gave the new surface of the Superdrome a test with a 36.300 in the Women's
500 Meter TT Final

with the old! Volunteers remove boards on the backstretch of the Superdrome
in Frisco. The first step in renovations is to remove over 700 old boards
from the framework.
- Father
and son volunteers drill out the screws holding old boards at the start
of the homestretch section. Over 15,000 screws must be removed before the
old boards can be pulled off the metal frame.
- A volunteer
removes rust from the exposed framework of the homestretch. The next step
is painting the exposed steel prior to laying down the new boards.
- Ryan
Crissey (Frisco Cycling Club president) hangs in a corner to remove old
boards at the Superdrome. The corners of the velodrome are banked at 45 degrees,
making climbing gear necessary.
- Racing
is go! Suzie Goodwin rides the resurfaced track in the third AVC event
