• The 63rd Annual Tour of Somerville gets rolling with some vintage rides. Check out that fork rake on the right.
• Winner of the 2005 Tour of Somerville (Jr 15-18): Shane Kline – Team Fuji is ready to try for back-to-back victories.
• Jackie Simes IV (Tri State Velo) son of Jack Simes III – winner of the 1969 Tour of Somerville, powers out of turn four.
• Shane Kline (Team Fuji) does it again in 2006. When comparing the finishing photos from 2005 and 2006, one sees that Shane selected identical lines (to the inch) for both victories. If it isn’t broke…
• Tina Pic (Colavita/ Cooking Light) is all smiles during the introductions while sporting "cool" sleeves to beat the scorching heat.
• Spectators at the 2006 Tour of Somerville – Mildred Kugler Women’s Open are set to enjoy what the field of 114 female cyclists are about to deliver.
• Laura VanGilder (TEAm Lipton) who is also sporting the new "it’s hot out here" sleeves, turns up the heat on an already overheated field.
• The only mishap of the race put three cyclists on the deck. One retired while the others rejoined the action.
• Meshy Holt (Colavita/ Cooking Light) acknowledges a spectator giving encouragement while she goes it alone.
• Tina Pic (Colavita/ Cooking Light) and Laura VanGilder (TEAm Lipton) duel it out to the line with Tina Pic taking the victory, Laura second and Kelly Benjamin (Cheerwine) third.
• Juan Jose Haedo (Toyota-United Cycling Team) lined up with only Stefano Barberi for support. Racing shorthanded didn’t stop him from unleashing his punishing sprint fifty miles later.
• 2005 winner of the Kugler-Anderson Memorial Tour of Somerville Kyle Wamsley (Colavita Olive Oil-Sutter Home Pro Cycling Team) looks down the road and ponders if he can repeat last year's final lap solo.
• Navigators Insurance Cycling Team sums up the effects of the day's first serious attack.
• The efforts of the Navigators Insurance Cycling Team caused a large group to form early.
• The lead group starts to splinter into two.
• The field gives two riders who appear to be experiencing a moment of confusion some room. "move right…your other right". No harm was done and things moved along nicely.
• A five-man break with three Navigators Insurance Cycling Team riders looks a bit "stacked" in their favor.
• As the laps dwindle, teams wanting a taste of victory move to the front and chip away at the break's lead.
• The five-man break is now at three and still looking good for the Navigators Insurance Cycling Team.
• A Navigators rider launches out of the field in pursuit of his two teammates off in the distance which causes a flurry of activity.
• The break is caught with single digits to go while the pack uses every inch of the road. The dash to the line is on as Navigators hopes evaporate.
• Juan Jose Haedo (Toyota-United Cycling Team) puts his name in the record books of a race that started in 1940.
