- Up-and-coming
sprinter Ross Edgar makes Jon Norfolk grimace in the sprint
- Girls
are made of sugar and spice and all things nice.... but if you look carefully
at the right moment in a bike race, you can sometimes see a hint of steel
determination, too!
- Experienced
Belgian six-day pro Matt Gilmore (top) was paired with up-and-coming Belgian
track star Iljo Keisse (bottom).

the final of the sprint series, Matt Haynes makes Ross Edgar work hard

the sprint crown.

- The
Revolution series mixes events for established track stars with races
for younger riders. Here the future stars head for the line in the last lap
of a race.
- If
you are going to fall off in a race try not to do it in front of a photographer.
- Chris
Hoy shows he is a true professional and manages to flash a happy smile
for the camera.
- Alexander
Aeschbach chucks his regular six-day partner Franco Marvulli into the
fray during the Madison in Manchester. Aeschbach is still bandaged and heavily
bruised after a nasty crash during the Ghent Six.
- Magnus
Backstedt gives Jimmi Madsen a big, powerful handsling during the Revolution
Madison event. You know when you are on a plane, and the pilot winds up the
engine then lets the brakes off at the start of the runway? When the plane
surges forward? That gives some idea of what a Madison handsling from Backstedt
must feel like.

Stam throws partner Robert Slippens into the Madison action in Manchester.

- The
riders are introduced to the sellout crowd during the 2004 Zesdaagse van
Vlaanderen
- Each
pair in turn is introduced to the crowd, and gives everyone a friendly
wave. This time, it is the turn of the Downing brothers.
- People
often ask how steep the bankings are on a tight, 170m track like Ghent.
Judge for yourself!
- Experienced
German six-day pro Gerd Dörich is a really classy bike rider. Here Dörich
works hard with Gilmore to claw back a lap after the flying Dutchmen Slippens
and Stam had gained a lap.
- Gerd
Dörich gives partner Andreas Kappes a full-on sling as the action gets
fast and furious at Ghent.
- Swiss
six-day superstar Bruno Risi paired up with Alexander Aeschbach on the
fifth night after their partners fell ill. Here, Risi slings Aeschbach into
the race.
- Any
closer and we'd be on a bike alongside them. The Slovak pair Martin Liska
and Josef Zabka change at speed.
- Italy's
Marco Villa throws Austria's Franz Stocher into the race. Both are highly
experienced six-day riders - and experience counts in this form of racing.
- Winners
of the first 40 minute Madison on the fifth night at the Ghent Six, Dutch
top dogs Robert Slippens and Danny Stam are in with a good chance of winning
overall.
- To
give the riders a breather after the Madison, the Ghent Six organisers
put on some alternative entertainment in a women's Derny race, with two British
riders.
- The
other British rider in the women's derny race
- Pacer
Michel Vaarten leads Bruno Risi towards victory in a Derny race
- By
the end of the fifth night the 2004 Ghent Six looks like a two horse race
between Slippens/Stam, and Matt Gilmore with partner Robert Bartko. Here,
Stam rides above Gilmore in a Derny race.
- Danny
Stam, derny man riding behind pacer Bruno Walrave
- Germany's
Andreas Beikirch passes Danny Stam during the Derny racing at the Ghent
six-days.
- Matt
Gilmore senses Andreas Beikirch trying to pass over him, and responds.
- The
final lap of the derny race. Danny Stam tries to come past Matt Gilmore,
but both are caught out by a surprise attack from Bruno Risi at the top of
the track
- Bruno
Risi and pacer Michel Vaarten both look pretty chuffed with their win.
Bruno gets to kiss the girls, but Michel looks to be going home with three
bottles of wine....
