Because of the slow conditions they allowed the competition to set the pace early on in the first loop to use the course to wear down the competitors. The race also brought out a new face to the area, top ranked XTERRA triathlete Cheri Touchette of Nashville, TN. After the first section of singletrack, Malenkovich attacked and then set tempo up the very long climb on the bluffs on the Mississippi river to drop rival Anne Grabowski of the Penn/Nature Valley Team. On the first descent of the course Malenkovich sealed the deal, putting an insurmountable 45 second gap on Grabowski. Thereafter Malenkovich continued to put time into the competition finishing with about a 2 minute lead. Meanwhile Grabowski, Leibke, and Touchette were battling it out for second and third position on the course. Leibke went down in the singletrack while trying to pass a male rider and damaged her shifting causing her to fall back into fourth place by the finish. Grabowski held off an excellent climbing Touchette to hold onto second place. Results1 Kyia Malenkovich (Dogfish/Bokoo/Trek) 2.09.37 2 Anne Grabowski (Penn/Nature Valley) 1.56 3 Cheri Touchette 3.22 4 Stephanie Moats Leibke (Dogfish/Bokoo/Trek) 9.33
