Taberlay takes final round and title

Tasmania's Sid Taberlay proved he was one of Australia's best mountain bike riders by winning the fourth and final round of the National Series in Mt Beauty. The 27 year-old Athens Olympian was one point off the series lead occupied by Sydney rider Aiden Lefmann heading into the round but his win was enough to claim Taberlay the 2007 National Series title. Sydney Olympian Paul Rowney proved his class by taking second place and even giving Taberlay a challenge in the downhill sections of the course. The 36 year-old rider finished one minute ahead of third place Dylan Cooper from Canberra.
Taberlay claimed a total of 278 points while Cooper moved into second place overall with 223 points ahead of Aiden Lefmann, who moved back to third spot with 220 points after finishing eleventh in today's race.

Recently crowned Australian champion Tory Thomas won again today and claimed the National Series title. The 28 year-old backed up her National Marathon win in September last year by taking the lead on the final lap. Thomas reeled in early leader Niki Fisher to win by one and a half minutes.
Third was Sydney rider Kate Potter who moved herself up in the series points to finish second overall and relegated Zoe King into third spot, after she finished fifth at the final round.
Commonwealth Games rider Emma Colson returned to form taking out a fourth place in today's race after overtaking Zoe King on the second lap.
Under 23 leader Lachlan Norris stayed ahead of other men's contenders and takes the national series title. Meanwhile, Canberra youngster Rebecca Henderson took out the overall Under 23 women's division at the age of 15.
