Peat and Chausson on top again

Steve Peat and Anne-Caroline Chasson once again topped the podium at the 2004 Red Bull Downtown, a unique downhill mountain bike race that uses as its course the narrow streets and steps of the Portuguese capital.
Cedric Gracia set the best time in qualifying, making his way down the kilometre-long course through the streets and down the steps of Alfama in 1:39.097. Only one second separated the top four qualifiers: Mick Hannah (Aus) was the second-fastest, David Vazquez (Spa) the third and Steve Peat (GBr) fourth.
No surprise in the women's qualifiers as Anne-Caroline Chausson (Fra) was four seconds faster than the UK's Helen Gaskel with a time of 1:50.291. Anneke Beerten (Ned) was third.
The women were first to go in the finals, and Anne-Caro held on to her top position, shaving over three seconds off her time in the process. Big surprise of the day was Anneke Beerten's secondplace, bumping Helen Gaskell to third.
