Misseghers and Smith take NORBA Series marathon #2

Troy Misseghers (Blairmore, AB, Canada / Mountain B) and Jennifer Smith (NZL / Trek/VW) took the professional men's and women's marathon titles on the first day of the National Mountain Bike Series #1 at Southridge Park in Fontana, Calif.

Misseghers finished the approximately 49 mile course – seven laps around the cross-country course – in 3 hours, 53 minutes and 15.59. Chris Eatough (Ellicott City, Md. / Trek/VW) who led early in the race, came in second to Misseghers just three minutes later. Michael Lee (Mission Viejo, Calif. / Trek/VW/JB) finished third.

On the women's side, Lee finished in with a commanding lead – nearly four minutes ahead of second-place Melissa Thomas (Rocky Mountain / Boulder, Colo.). Women's professional riders also completed seven laps, however, announcers declared Lee the winner when she had completed only her sixth lap, bringing her to a complete stop. When officials corrected the error, Lee continued, losing little time to her competitors. Lee finished the course in 4:48:44.59. Josie Beggs (Capitola, Calif. / Starbucks) finished third.
