Jeep King of the Mountain Series #1

Sonoma, CA, May 16, 2004

Mike King and Katrina Miller take Titles

The 2004 Jeep King of the Mountain Series completed round one today at Infineon Speedway with close finishes in both men's and women's categories.

Winning the men's division by a margin of .27 seconds was Mike King of San Diego, CA over Wade Bootes of Australia. Mick Hannah of Australia captured third place.

Women's winner was Katrina Miller of Australia over Sabrina Jonnier of France by a scant .05 seconds. Third place was taken by Jill Kintner of Murrieta, CA who joined the field of 8 competitors through the Saturday qualifier.

Miller commented on her win over the 2003 World Champion by saying "I knew it would be a tight race and that it would be great for the spectators and TV. We've raced each other for a long time and it goes back and forth so I expect a good fight over the next two events."

Men and women racers from across the world competed today for a share of $35,000 in prize money and series points leading to the World Champion title.

Riders in the Y Challenge compete head to head on a demanding downhill course that combines the technical and tactical skills of Dual Racing with the drama of Mountain Cross.

The Jeep King of the Mountain Series continues June 18 & 19 in Mount Snow Vermont with the finale scheduled September 18th where World Champions will be crowned. Prizes for the season total over $100,000. In addition both the overall men's and women's champion receive a two year lease on a Jeep Wrangler and a check for $5,000 from John Paul Mitchell Systems.
