Centennial
Park, the historic parklands of Sydney and soon to be featured
as part of Federation 2001, is the middle stage of the 2000 tour.
The course has been
a feature of Australian cycling for the majority of the century
and been responsible for some of the greatest road cycling seen
in Australia. Legend of Australian cycling, the late Russell Mockeridge
won an impressive national title in the late forties.
Parts of the course
contributed to the Sydney 2000 course with the 2.86 kilometre ideal for
spectators who assemble during the lunch time stage to view the international
and Australian cyclists in action.
Ben Brooks,
Jay Sweet and Max Van Heeswyk have been previous winners during
the past three years with last year's victory a large bunch sprint
finish, while both Sweet and Brooks won with solo breakaways.
