Results & reports from the USAPromoters wishing to submit results should send them to Cyclingnews Nebraska Cyclo-cross series #7November 17, 2002LBC's Jay Thomas Wins & Locks Up Points ChampionshipBy John Jr Lefler On a day that ended well for LBC/cyclocrossworld team leader, Jay Thomas, it certainly did not start that way. After locking his keys in his car, Thomas arrived at Pioneers Park late sunday afternoon for the seventh race in the Nebraska Cyclo-cross Series. Despite missing out on a proper warm-up, Thomas rode strong and maintained a steady 20-second lead on NHS/UNMC/Team Kaos rider, Joe McWilliams. The victory is the fifth consecutive in the Cat. 1/2 ranks and the second overall for Thomas, who locked up the "Pedro's Points Competition." "This was the hardest race of the series, by far," commented Thomas. "There was no time to rest on this course and I could never get above 20 seconds on Joe." In the heated Cat. 3 competition for the "Pedro's Points Jersey," NHS/UNMC/Team Kaos rider Jesse Petersen wore the Leaders Jersey for the first time today. Oddly enough, shortly before the start of the Cat. 1/2/3 event Petersen joked, "I am jinxed wearing this thing!" Jinx or not, Petersen suffered a flat in the first lap, but recovered well to finish fourth in the Cat. 3 ranks. Unfortunately, the jersey no longer belongs to Petersen, who is now third in the competition with 52 points, two behind teammate Paul Chapman and LBC/cyclocrossworld standout, Tonmy Wilhelm. The two share the lead at 54 points a piece with Chapman the virtual leader after today's first place finish in the Cat. 3 event. The Cat. 3 competition for the "Pedro's Points Jersey" becomes very interesting heading into next week's Nebraska Cyclo-cross State Championship in Omaha at Standing Bear Lake (Entrance #4).
