December 14: Single Speed
Single Speedo's keep their arms warm

Getting started early this morning, in very cold temperatures, was the single speed race. It seemed that some didn't feel the cold though, because two insane individuals turned up as the single Speedos, racing the event is just Speedos and arm warmers.
The event was won by Jon Hansen, a mountain biker of six years, racing his first single speed event today. "I came here to support my fiancée," he said, "and decided that I might as well race." Loving the course, Hansen was happy but very surprised with his win. "I wanted to win," he explained. But I really didn't think I would."
The event was not a National Championship race, so no gold medal, but Hansen won a bottle of Chardonnay and a six pack of Mactarnahan's Amber Ale. "I'm sure I'm going to be wasted after drinking all this," he said.
Taking second and third places respectively were Adrian Hegyvary and Mark Knokey, both from Washington.
