'Cross Out Crohn's Disease' Cyclocross Race

Ewing Park, USA, November 14 2004

The Des Moines Cyclocross Mafia invaded Ewing Park for their fourth 'Cross Out Crohn's Disease' event on Sunday, putting out a hit on crossers from around the midwest. Kevin Hankens (Alan) fired the first shot after the start of the race, beating down Lee Venteicher (Cycle-pharm) and Cully Todd (Team Skin) like a pair of dirty rotten double-crossers. With one lap off the front, Hankens was pulled in by a fast-footed gang going into the barriers named R.I.P. Pauly.

After a while in the dogpile, Hankens tossed a grenade into the pack and blew off the front again with Venteicher and Todd going backwards into the skirmish. Throughout the fifty minute event numerous mafiosos tried to challenge Hankens' lead, including Todd Gillihan (Skin) Chris Maharry (ROYCO) Bruce Grell & Greg Aronson (DICE) and Kurt Hantleman (DMOS-Mortgage Solutions), but he proved once and for all he is the boss of Des Moines South Side.

Sandy Kessler emerged victorious from the women's melee over challengers Darcy Sanford and Jean Gilpin. We hope you enjoyed the race and the great schwag from our friends at DeFeet, Clif Bar, Java Joe's Coffeehouse, Graziano's Italian Grocery, Sally Logan and Helping Hands Therapeutic Massage and Bikeworld. See you in three in Newton for the epic showdown you've waited all year for...
