Kansas City, Kansas, October 24, 2004If you're familiar with the old saying, "The more things change, the more they stay the same" you'll appreciate week #2 of Boss Cross 2004. In the "..stay the same" category were the prime fall weather, excellent racer and spectator turnout and sponsor support from Boulevard Brewing, Midwest Cyclery, Voler and Vittoria. In the "change" column count the twisty, hilly course that forced riders off their bikes several times per lap and new race winners in every category. In the Men's A race, Shadd Smith (HRRC/Maclaren) and Tony Wilhelm (LBC/Highgear) opened an immediate gap on the field. Through several laps the two moved in tandem with Smith leading. At mid race Smith began to open a gap which widened steadily for the duration. Wilhelm stayed smooth and focused to hold second with Adam Mills (HRRC/Maclaren) coming home third. Men's B winner Jonathan Collins emerged from a lead group containing last week's winner Steve Shope (Midwest Boulevard Racing) and Ashley Oelschlaeger (KU Cycling) and Tony Stewart (KCOI). A mid-race mechanical forced Shope off the pace and the group split at mid race with each rider in their own world of pain. At the finish it was Collins with a deserving win Boss Cross 2004 concludes on Halloween, October 31 and Leo Alvey Park in Kansas City, Kansas ResultsA Men 1 Shadd Smith (HRRC/MacClaren Racing) 2 Anthony Wilhelm (LBC/Highgear) 3 Adam Mills (HRRC/MacClaren Racing) 4 Mark Studnicki (Cow Town) 5 Doug Wilmes (Team X) 6 Thomas Price (All Ireland Racing) 7 Doug Plumer (Team X) 8 Sam Rosenau (Lincoln Bicycle Company) 9 David White (KCBC) 10 Bill Marshall (Team X) 11 Tyler Carmichael (LBC/Highgear) 12 George Guirgis (Lone Star Cannondale) 13 Eric Prim (BikeSource) 14 Ian Kirby (unattached) 15 Steve Shope (Midwest Boulevard Racing) DNF Tige Lamb (KC Multisport) B Men 1 Jonathan Collins (unattached) 2 Ashley Oelschlaeger (KU Cycling) 3 Tony Stewart (KCOI) 4 Rick Barrett (unattached) 5 TJ Carmichael (LBC) 6 Matt McKillip (E.C.
