Mojo Verizon 'Cross

San Antonio, Texas, November 28, 2004

With arch-nemesis Jason Sager on holiday in Colorado, perennial Texas cyclocross heavyweight Will Black (Lone Star Racing) laid waste to a smallish yet talented field at the first ever Mojo veRizon 'Cross held on the idyllic grounds of the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater (Promoter's apologies to Jim Morrison). In one 4-minute lap, the field was essentially reduced to three as Black and Solar Eclipse teammates JT Cody and pro mountain biker Nathan Phillips simply rode away from the remainder of the field. After 20 minutes, Phillips could no longer handle the infernal pace up front. With 25 minutes to go, Cody also had to succumb to Black's pressure. Black pressed on lapping the entire field with the exception of his erstwhile companions Cody and Phillips. Cody and Phillips maintained their positions finishing 2nd and 3rd, respectively. Texas state road race champion, Steen Rose, (NWCC) finished 4th while another Solar Eclipse rider, Chris Aarhus, finished 5th.

Race promoter Rob Kane was pleased with the turnout and even more pleased with the venue stating "we are thrilled to be building a positive rapport with Verizon. Hopefully this venue will see many more races before it is all said and done. I know if my fellow racers and spectators had a say, the Verizon Amphitheater would become synonymous with bike racing."
