From the gun, Thomas and teammate Anthony Wilhelm powered away from the field and opened a 60 second gap after only two laps. The wet, muddy conditions did little to slow the LBC/Highgear tandem, which eventually lapped the field in the final two circuits. With three laps to go, Thomas pulled away from Wilhelm, who has dominated the series this year, winning two of the last three events. With the first two spots on the podium secured, the battle for third shaped up to be an exciting one between Mark Savery (Scheels/Specialized), Jesse Petersen (Cycle Works/Moose's Tooth), Tim Farnham (Team Kaos) and Sam Rosenau (LBC/Highgear). On lap five of the 60-minute contest, Savery attacked the group with only Farnham able to match the acceleration. After a two-lap chase, Petersen and Rosenau closed down the gap. With three laps to go, Savery jumped again, but this time there was no response from the bunch, watching the Scheels/Specialized rider roll to his fourth third place finish of the series. In the finale, Petersen edged Farnham in the sprint to the line with Rosenau rolling across in sixth place. Marie Neville (Team Kaos) continued her dominance of the Women's field with another top finish. Mountain Magnolias rider Kristi Newcomb took second with LBC/Highgear rider Renee Carter finishing third. The Nebraska Cyclocross Series concludes Sunday, November 28, 2004 with the Nebraska Cyclo-cross State Championship at Pioneers Park in Lincoln. The race will also serve as the fifth round of the Mid-America Cross Cup. Local results 2004 |
