" Flyin Ryan" Leech (Fort/GPOA) took second behind Powers and Joe Reynolds (Wissahickon) rode a "breakthrough" race to take third. Powers, Leech and Reynolds had been part of a larger group that rode together for the majority of the race but they slipped away as the group started to disintegrate. The trio itself then fell apart as Powers pulled away from Leech and Reynolds to come in solo for the win. Power's teammate, Alex Donahoe won the sprint for fourth, besting Charles Storm (Fuji SE) and Ryan DeWald (Lite Bites), who finished fifth and sixth, respectively. The Elite race was Storm's second of the day after riding to an impressive win in the Masters 35+ race that morning. Storm was even out for a solo attack early in the Elite race before being reeled back in. Also pulling double duty was Powers who not only took the overall win in the Elite category, he scored a double by also being the first Espoir across the line. Andrew Wulfkuhle (Wissahickon) placed second in the Espoir category and third belonged to Joey Thompson (Devo). In the elite women's field, professional road racer Charm Breon (Freddie Fu) took her first win of the series. Breon's furious charge off the line, gave her a sizeable gap by the first set of barriers and that gap continued to grow as the race progressed. Team Wissahickon's top gun, Amber Itle, made her 2003 series debut and placed a strong second behind Breon. Betsy Schauer (Fort/GPOA) picked up third and Snow Valley's Megan Render took fourth. The most intense battle of the race was actually for fifth spot with Lisa Most (Wissahickon), Tammy Ebersole (Evolution Racing) and Bonnie Stoeckl (Evolution Racing) trading leads until the last trip through the sand pit. Most and Ebersole came out together but Most got the jump, hit the pavement first, and beat Ebersole to the line to score a well deserved fifth place. The Masters 35+ race was won by Charles Storm (Fuji SE) but only after he sprinted clear of the six-man group that dominated the race from the gun. All six were still together as they headed towards the finish but Storm's jump gave him two seconds and that was enough to take home the prize. Eric Schlauch (Somerset Wheelmen) and Bill Alcorn (Speedgoat) crossed together with Schlauch nipping Alcorn for second. Mike Hebe (Monex) beat Rob Hacker (Lite Bites) to the line for fourth and fifth, respectively. The unstoppable Fred Wittwer (Charlottesville) won the Masters 45+ race and Aaron Snyder (Tailwind) won the Junior's race. Other winners include Patricia Durrell (Sandhills) in Women's B, Steve Rescigno (Bethel Cycles) in Men's B, and Kevin Zutell (Aquafina) in Men's C. The winner of the Women's Elite race, Charmian Breon (Freddie Fu) also took top honors in the Women's 35+ category.
