The finale in the 2003 Nebraska Cyclo-cross Series also served as the last opportunity for riders to grab points in the Pedro's Points Competition, which had been all but wrapped up by Darin Schlake heading into the final event of the series. From the gun, the battle that had been raging all series long between the Kaos and LBC/Highgear riders looked to have gained even more steam with the state title on the line. As riders fought to establish position on the tight and windy 1.2 mile course, the Kaos trio of Schlake, McWilliams and Wilkins moved off the front with LBC/Highgear rider Jay Thomas and Footloose and Fancy's, Mark Savery, who rode a superb race all day to finish the day fourth overall. With the field strung out, the three Kaos riders pulled away leaving the chase group of Thomas, Savery and K-State rider, Mike Koons to bridge a :25 gap. Heading into the final three laps, the leaders extended their advantage to nearly 60 seconds. Crossing the line, hands pointing to the sky, Kevin Wilkins took the USCF Gold followed by Schlake and McWilliams. The 1-2-3 finish also solidified the Kaos sweep in the Pedro's Points standings with Schlake taking top honors.
