Giro delle Regioni - 2.7.1 (MU23)Italy, April 26-May 1, 2002Stage 1 - April 26: San Ginesio - CamerinoQuadranti takes the cakeCourtesy of Brian Stephens, Australian U23 Team Manager The Giro Regioni is an under 23 tour for National Teams and the top Italian club teams. Today's stage was from San Ginesio to Camerino. The Australian AIS team consists of Gene Bates, Adrian Laidler, David Pell, David McPartland, Simon Gerrans and Ashley Humbert. The 1st stage didn't look difficult on paper, but turned out to be extremely hard, because of both the terrain and the high speed of the race. The field began to split from the first kilometers. Our best was promising young talent, Ashley Humbert who only lost contact with the leaders on the final climb to the finish in Camerino. The others were among the various groups all over the course. Impressive winner was Antonio Quadranti from Sintofarm.
