Wegmann takes his chance

Fabian Wegmann (Gerolsteiner) fooled the sprinters in today's Rund um die Nürnberg Altstadt by breaking away about 3 km before the finish and hanging to to win by a single second. He was followed by Olaf Pollack (Wiesenhof-Felt) and team-mate Sven Krauss (Gerolsteiener).
The peloton stayed together during much of the race, as the sprinters' teams brought back multiple escape attempts. The 143 km event consisted of eight laps of a larger course followed by eight 5 km laps of the Altstadtring.
Wegmann took advantage of the final climb on the final lap to make his move. "The climb was exactly right, that's the best thing for me," he said. "About 200 meters before the finish line, I knew that the win was mine."
