Stage 2 - September 5: León - Burgos, 207 km

The first open road stage of the 2004 Vuelta a España is a roller coaster of a course, undulating all the way from León to Burgos, 207 km away. The sprinters will try to be battle it out today, trying to get any lead they can. But as always in this part of the world a flat stage does not necessarily mean a peloton intact at the finish. On the open but high plains of Castilla y León the wind is always is a factor and if one or another team takes the initiative at the right time the peloton can be split apart in a matter of moments.
