Stage 12 - September 16: Almería - Observatorio Meteorológico de Calar Alto, 145 km

Today is payback day after yesterday's rest, with the 145km route between Almería and the Observatorio Astronómico de Calar Alto filled with pain in the form of the Alto de Velefique, a 1830 meter Cat. 1 climb, the Cat. 1 Alto de Calar Alto and finally the special category Calar de Alto, rising from 760m to 2090m over the final 21km. Today is a day that could prove to make or break for some this year's Vuelta.
