Scratch racing returned to Loveday with Riverland Cycling Club's largest group of members nominated for quite some time. The riders were split into three grades, A through C including Kade Boase riding in our junior category.

A Grade consisted of Lee Stevens, Angus Boase, Mick Gray and Ben Kaethner. Riding alongside new recruit John Jeffrey were fellow B Graders Peter Weston, Peter Evans, John Eshman and Angelo Ylia. Gordon Lawton returned to the C Grade line up with Ruth Strout, Glen O'Brien, Eli Southern and club junior Kade Boase.

The windy conditions made it tough for those competing but mechanical issues and tyre troubles put a few riders under even more pressure. A grade completed their 58km (five laps) without issue, Stevens crossing in first ahead of Gray, A. Boase and Kaethner.

Peter Evans was looking strong for B Grade until the closing stages of the final lap saw him lose valuable time. His quick stop to fix a tyre problem left him with little chance of catching the group. The final sprint was far from a mad dash with Jeffrey making his move quite some distance from the line. Weston followed ahead of Ylia, Eshman and the determined Evans.

Although K. Boase was making his return to the racing scene, after completing the required 23.2km (two laps) he found himself in second place overall, however he was officially in the junior category. O'Brien stormed home to take out line honours ahead of Strout and Southern; the top three remained as a group for the entire race (46.4km). Lawton, a lap down, crossed in fourth after mechanical issues forced him off the course early.
