Stage 1 - August 9: Women's time trial, 13.39 km

Tomic continues winning streak at Junior World Championships

West Australian teenager Josephine Tomic, 18, has continued her phenomenal winning streak by adding the gold medal in the women's road time trial to her two gold on the track at the Junior World Championships being raced at altitude in Aguascalientes, Mexico.

Tomic was the only rider to average more than 40km/h setting an average speed of 40.415km/h to complete the 13.9km race against the clock in a time of 20.38.15. She was 23 seconds faster than silver medallist Valeriya Kononenko with American Jerika Hutchinson a further three seconds back in third place.

Australia's other starter in the race, Carlee Taylor, 18, placed 20th with a time of 22m34.110s, 1m56s slower than her team mate's winning time.

Tomic, who during the track competition set a world record to win the individual pursuit and claimed gold in the points race, admitted she struggled with her motivation heading into the time trial final.

"It was definitely hard to keep my motivation up especially with all the 'trackies' (track competitors) flying home," said Tomic, "I was also really tired after what was an amazing week so I felt a bit flat when I first headed out onto the course.

"But there were heaps of people on the course cheering and that really lifted me," said Tomic. "They were so loud and enthusiastic all the way along."

Tomic was the tenth of the 28 starters to leave the gate and rode the final in near perfect conditions on the Aguascalientes course that climbed from 1888 metres to 2040 metres above sea level.

"There was no wind at all and the temperature was just right because I wouldn't have wanted to race when it was really hot," said Tomic recalling the 43 degree temperature the team faced during one day of the track competition. "The course itself had a gradual climb pretty much all the way out but coming back was downhill for most of the way with a flat run into the finish.

"I had a ride on the course last week before the track competition started and again the day before the final so I knew what to expect."

Tomic will line up on Saturday in the women's road race.
