Plaza carries Comunidad Valenciana home

By Antonio J. Salmerón

Comunidad Valenciana rider Rubén Plaza took an authoritative victory in the final sprint ahead of Jon Bru (Kaiku), Eladio Jiménez (Comunidad Valenciana) and Pablo Lastras (Illes Balears) in the Clasica los Puertos. The four riders were the best of a 12 man break, while the main peloton arrived 4 minutes and 5 seconds later, with Oscar Pereiro in 27th.

The Clásica de Los Puertos saw a battle between Kaiku and Comunidad Valenciana. The climbs of Los Leones (Cat. 2) and Navacerrada (Cat. 1) were less decisive than previously; neither were the four passages of the climb of La Serranilla (Cat. 3), twice at the beginning and twice at the end of the race.
