2004 Invitational Executive Cycling Cup off to a successful start

Former US Air Base, Clark Field in the province of Pampanga, Philippines played host to events 1A and 1B of the 2004 Invitational Executive Cycling Cup last March 27 and 28. The year long race series kicked off with a successful two-day cycling extravaganza at the sun-scorched ex-American airbase. The racing was fast and furious with two teams and one rider rising above the 80-rider peloton.
Event 1A, March 27
The 33 kilometer team time trial race was won by Team AutoTrend 7-Cycles with the winning time of 48 minutes and 6 seconds. The title of "Executive Team Time Trial Champions 2004" went to this highly motivated team whose riders train mostly in the Alabang, Muntinlupa area. Second and third places went to Team Look-Carrera and Team Alcatel Alaska A Superstar Roadies, respectively.
Event 1B, March 28
The 90 kilometer massed start circuit road race was won by Joel Gironella (Team Look Carrera) with the winning time of 2 hours and 30 minutes. Closely followed by his teammate Eric Carandang (Team Look Carrera) and Ronald Cordero (Team AutoTrend 7-Cycles). Gironella's race win earned him the crown of "Executive Road Race Champion 2004" and gave him the overall lead in points for the division 1 individual classification. After 2 days of racing, Team Alcatel Alaska A Superstar Roadies is the overall leader in points for the division 1 team classification.
Division 2
Newcomers to the sport of competitive cycling were categorized into the division 2.
The individual time trial race (22 kilometers) held on March 27 was won by Patrick Joson (Team AutoTrend 7-Cycles) with a winning time of 34 minutes and 22 seconds. He was followed by Maiqui Dayrit (Team Look Carrera) and Bobby San Miguel (Team Joven Giant Trek Turbolite).
The massed start circuit road race (54 kilometers) held on March 28 was won by Bobby San Miguel (Team Joven Giant Trek Turbolite) and followed by Israel Dee (Team John Wilkie B) and Maiqui Dayrit (Team Look Carrera).
